First, these batteries may have been actually Blackberry units but were A or B stock.  That covers a number of things regarding the source of the batteries.  They may be batteries removed from phones returned under warranty or returned to service providers.  It could be they are counterfeit from oversees and the supplier cannot verify they are authentic.  It may be that they did not pass Blackberry quality control and so may or may not have all the cells working.

The thing that concerns me is the number of online retailers buying these wholesale and then passing them off as new.  There is nothing to note they are not new stock other than the price.  A legitimate OEM Blackberry battery from a Blackberry Authorized wholesaler costs somewhere in the upper 20′s ($28 plus some change).

Any retailer selling the batteries well below this price is not selling you new, authentic stock.  Some may get discounts below the upper 20′s based on size but we don’t know of anyone getting them for less than 15% off that price.

The power station works wonderfully.  It makes it easy to see your phone when charging and does a great job charging a spare battery and the bluetooth headset.

Like batteries, the charger market is full of low cost, low quality, junk units.  Brand name counterfeiting is everywhere and these cheap knockoffs can easily fry your phone.  As with batteries, it is important to buy from a trusted source and manufacturers that guarantee the charger will not damage the phone with a promise to replace it if they do.

Because batteries are the lifeblood of a cell phone, choosing your battery carefully is important.  Not all batteries are equal.

It is generally a safe bet to purchase an OEM (one made by the company that makes your phone) battery.  As long as you dont get a counterfeit unit, and there are a lot of these out there, these batteries should provide the promised talk and standby time. 

Most aftermarket batteries are a safe bet as well but you want to be sure and check out the company behind it.  If it is a name brand you cant find any info on, I would stay away from it.  The lifeblood of your phone can also be the death of it if it is a bad unit.  It is not a pretty site to watch your phone melt down and catch on fire because you had a substandard battery.  That $9 battery just cost you $200 in a phone not to mention any burns you might have because it was in your pocket.
